Half-Baked Blogs & Other OG Musings

Half-Baked, Still Worth Sharing

What I’m about to do is inspired by Bill Simmons. He has a podcast episode he does every so often called “Half-Baked Ideas.” It’s one of those fun, light-hearted episodes where he and his guests toss out ideas that are kind of smart, kind of ridiculous. They're not fully thought out and that’s the point. They could be about sports, business, life hacks, weird inventions, and any and everything in between. The fun of it is in the creativity. You hear the idea and think, “Wait… maybe that could actually work?”

This is my own twist on that format. Not necessarily “half-baked ideas,” but more like half-baked blogs and thoughts. Some are one-liners I was planning to post on X or Threads. Some are blog ideas still simmering in the background. Some are random opinions that feel like the early seeds of a full post I might write one day. Some, honestly, probably won’t ever grow into full blogs, but I still think they’re worth sharing.

So here they are. A collection of thoughts, reflections, and raw takes from yours truly.

Get your fruits and vegetables. Get your daily vitmains.
Even if it’s just a little bit. The small stuff matters.

Life is already going to beat you down.
No need to do it to yourself too. Be kind to you.

“If I had a dollar every time…”
Insert whatever you want here and you’d still not have the money you think you would. Just go out there and do the work anyway.

Ever notice the advice you give others...
...is usually the exact advice you need to follow yourself? Why is it so hard to do what we already know we should do?

Look closely at the people around you.
Really look at them. Your significant other, your parents, your best friend, your cousin. Think about this: the things that annoy you most about them are often traits you haven’t dealt with in yourself. Before you criticize, first ask yourself, then ask them: “Do I do that too?” You might be surprised by the answer.

The man with a plan.
He’s definitely more likely to succeed. It doesn’t guarantee anything, but it raises the odds. Life is a game of percentages. Stack them in your favor.  Nothing in life is promised. All you can do is improve your chances and then hope for the best. Same way diet and exercise don’t guarantee a long life, but they increase your odds.

Better to be too much than not enough.
Overdressed > underdressed. Early > late. Aggressive > passive. You can always dial back. It’s harder to turn up.  Better to be too aggressive on the court and need to dial it back, than to be passive and need to be convinced to show up. I know this for a fact, especially in sports. Want it too much, and we can work with that.

It’s not personal, but it’s personal.
No need to run from it.  You want to prove them wrong or you want to prove you right.  It all ends up at the same destination.  Make it personal without making it personal.  That’s the real secret.

Think fast. Act faster.
Momentum is a real thing. When inspiration hits, act on it; immediately if you can. Those emotions are fleeting. I’ve had blog ideas come to me and, if I didn’t act on them in the moment, the spark fades. Even if I write the idea down, by the time I come back to it, the clarity and conviction are gone. Capture it while it’s hot.

Use social media. Don’t let it use you.
That unconscious scroll is real. Delete the app for a few days. You’ll be shocked how often you grab your phone with no purpose at all. Let that be a sign: create more than you consume.  Make your phone a tool, not a distraction.

There’s always a silver lining.
It might be small but it’s there. Find it. Your life will be better for it.

“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
I understood it as, they’re going to condemn you for the same reasons they praise you.  Just do you and enjoy the journey.

If you’re gonna f* up… F*** UP.**
Translation: make mistakes reaching for the stars.  Make errors because you put too much on your plate.  Come up short because you were trying to accomplish too much.  Never ever let the reason be because you didn’t do enough. Or even worse, that you didn’t even try.

Don’t be greedy.
Only ask for more than what you actually want. Yes, you read that right. Yes, I wrote that right as well.

Too much of anything is bad.
Balance is the name of the game. Seriously though, how much is too much?

I’ll end it there. With that last question.

How much is too much?

I wouldn't say it keeps me up at night, but it's a question I think about often. I’m on a quiet little quest to figure it out.
