Do Less, Achieve More

The OG Millennial’s Guide to Doing It All

You can do it all. Whatever your dreams may be, you have the ability to make them happen. Whether you want to be a Doctor, Lawyer, Architect, or even a Multimillionaire, Rapper, Engineer—you’re capable of achieving it. You can be a Real Estate Developer, Writer, Computer Scientist, and Comedian—all of this is within your reach. The possibilities are endless.

However, there’s a catch. And it’s a simple but crucial one: You can do it all, just not all at the same time.

This is the key to true success. We all have a lot of ideas, ambitions, and passions, but spreading yourself thin will never lead to the level of success you’re truly capable of. Focus is the missing ingredient. If you want to excel at something, you need to dedicate your time, energy, and resources to it. Trying to juggle multiple pursuits simultaneously will only prevent you from becoming the best version of yourself in any one area.

I’ve seen this firsthand in my own life. When I was young, I tried to balance academics with basketball. I was decent at both but never exceptional. Once I chose to focus solely on basketball, the progress I made in just a couple of years far outpaced the growth I experienced when I was splitting my time. The lesson here is simple: singular focus drives exponential growth.

This concept is the same for all aspects of life. You can’t be your best at software development if you’re also focused on stock trading. You can’t be a master at both. The beauty of the OG Millennial mindset is understanding the importance of focus while also embracing the versatility of our dreams. We aim to grow, progress, and become the best versions of ourselves, but we also have to recognize when it's time to dedicate ourselves fully to one pursuit, to level up and do it well.

That said, there’s a reality that comes with money. When resources allow, you don’t have to do it all yourself. With the right financial backing, you can delegate and get things done, but that doesn’t mean you’ve mastered those things. There’s a difference between doing something yourself and achieving excellence versus simply getting it done through others.

As an OGM, the journey is about focus, progress, and being authentic in how you approach your goals. It’s about understanding that you can do it all, but achieving greatness requires prioritization and laser-like focus on what matters most in each season of your life. Let’s make our dreams a reality, one step at a time, with intention and purpose.

The Importance of Academics in Building the Foundation for Success

While I emphasize the power of focus and the importance of singular dedication, it’s also vital to recognize the role academics played in my journey. When I was younger, I balanced school and basketball, and it wasn’t always easy. But looking back, I realize that academics were never just something I had to do. They were the foundation I needed to get to where I truly wanted to be.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, in order to do what you want to do.

For me, academics were the stepping stone that allowed me to focus on basketball later. Without that strong academic foundation, I wouldn’t have been able to transition into fully dedicating myself to the sport. In fact, balancing both taught me valuable lessons in discipline, time management, and commitment—skills I now use every day, not just in basketball, but in everything I pursue.

Once I graduated from university, I made the decision to focus entirely on basketball, and that’s when my progress truly accelerated. But it wasn’t until I had a solid academic background that I was able to step into that phase of my life with the confidence and discipline necessary to excel.

So, to all the young people out there balancing academics and their passions, remember this: The discipline you gain in your academic journey will serve you long after you finish your degree. It’s the training ground for the hard work and dedication you’ll need in any future pursuit. It’s about building the habits and skills that will allow you to focus when it’s time to shift your energy toward what you truly want. Academics might feel like something you have to do, but in reality, it’s giving you the tools to do everything you want to do.

Final Thoughts: The OGM Code

As OG Millennials, we have the power to be multifaceted, dynamic individuals. We can pursue multiple dreams, but success comes when we recognize the importance of focus and dedication. Your passions are valid, and you are capable of reaching incredible heights—but remember, focus will get you there faster than trying to do it all at once. The discipline learned through every pursuit, whether academics, sports, or business, builds the foundation for the next chapter in your growth.

Let’s commit to our dreams with intention. Embrace the power of focus, and take the steps to turn your vision into reality, one purposeful action at a time.
