There’s a simple concept that seems to be getting overlooked in business and everyday life:
Close the loop.
We all know the saying, “communication is key.” And for the most part, people (especially us OG Millennial’s) make a genuine effort to communicate clearly and effectively.
However, communication alone isn’t enough.
The last step matters too. That last step is to close the loop.
Finish the Communication
Closing the loop means finishing the communication.
If you tell someone you’re going to handle something, tell them when it’s handled. If you say you’ll send something over, confirm when you send it. If someone is waiting on an answer, don’t make them wonder whether you forgot.
That final message might only take a few seconds:
Done.
Sent.
Handled.
Confirmed.
Those few seconds are what create clarity. Without them, the other person is left wondering.
Did it get done?
Do I need to follow up?
Should I remind them?
Is something wrong?
That uncertainty creates unnecessary friction.

Clarity Is Part of the Deliverable
In business, completing the task is only part of the job.
The other part is making sure the people involved know it’s complete. That’s what closing the loop does.
It builds trust.
It shows reliability.
It eliminates unnecessary follow-up.
It makes you easier to work with.
The task may be the deliverable, but clarity is part of the deliverable too.
So when you say you’re going to do something, do it.
Then take the extra few seconds to close the loop.
